ROYALSTON – Sitting under tents or relaxing in the shade at Bullock Park Sunday afternoon, around 100 people attended the first of two installments of the Royalston Music Festival.

The festival, which is sponsored by the Royalston Cultural Council, was started 22 years ago by residents Phil Leger and Jim Bennett.

According to Leger, it was done as a way to give some exposure to local bands and solo performers, as well as provide a venue for more seasoned acts.

Sunday’s lineup included a couple favorites from the council’s Open Mic Nights, which are held the first Friday of each month from December through April.

Derek D’Acoustic opened the event, followed by Denny Dee and the band Local Phenomena. The headliner for the day was the Barrett Anderson Band out of Cambridge.

The second day of the festival will take place on Sunday, Aug. 9, at the gazebo in the South Village and will feature Kristiaan Krause, who kick things off at noon. Next up will be Marc Borroughs-Biron, followed by Garold Amadon. The headliners, who will take the stage at 3 p.m., are The Psychedelic Farm Girls, based out of Greenfield.
