Orange Police Log: Jan. 16 to Jan. 23, 2023

Monday, January 16

1:55 p.m. – Call for cow (steer) still in the area of Route 2, on other side of the guardrail. Owner updated on location. Additional call logged at 4:16 p.m. Police responded and assisted with preventing the animal from going out onto the highway. The owner was on scene trying to secure the animal.

9:01 p.m. – Suspicious activity reported from Wheeler Avenue. Reported party requested police check on their cabin as activity by unknown parties was shown via their Ring camera. Police checked the exterior of the residence. Everything appeared to be secure but did observe footprints. Spoke with the reporting party over the phone and they are requesting extra patrols due to the suspicious activity.

Tuesday, January 17

3:42 a.m. – Traffic stop E Main Street for defective exhaust.

Wednesday, January 18

5:48 p.m. – Police responded to a disturbance call from Daniel Shays Highway. On arrival reporting party was worried about a tow truck that had come onto the property and dropped off a vehicle belonging to a party that lives there, and they also keep moving the signs to the entrance of the property. Police advised the reporting party that if the tow truck did not touch any of her property, then she should not be concerned, and police cannot control if signs are moved.

Thursday, January 19

1:41 p.m. – E River Street caller reported they believed a neighbor was stalking her. The neighbor goes out to walk her dog the same time she does everyday and she has asked her to stop following her multiple times.

1:46 p.m. – Suspicious activity reported from Walnut Hill Road. Caller reported that about a half hour earlier her Ring door bell caught a male party going up looking in her windows. Under investigation.

4:38 p.m. – Traffic stop E River Street for failure to make a complete stop at the stop sign.

6:15 p.m. – E Main Street caller caller reported a male party that appeared to be sleeping almost in the road, possibly under the influence. Police located the subject who was under the influence and sitting on the sidewalk. Subject was provided a courtesy transport to their mother’s house, who said she would look after them for the night.

5:50 a.m. – Police assisted with Daniel Shays Highway motor vehicle lock out, vehicle was running. Entry gained.

11:05 p.m. – E Main Street caller reported they were attempting to do their laundry and there was a male party laying on the floor. He was conscious and breathing, but it was not known why he was doing what he was doing. On arrival subject was seated in a chair within the laundromat. They were traveling through the area and homeless. They were not causing any issues nor impeding business and was allowed to remain. Police discussed options on better locations of services.

Saturday, January 21

5:13 a.m. – Commercial burglar alarm from E Main Street, no company name on the account. Officers responded to a motion alarm. Building was checked and found to be secure but person was inside the building using the dryer. Police provided them a courtesy transport as the owner did not want them to remain on the property.

8:25 a.m. – Noise complaint from E Main Street caller who stated dog is left alone and barks all night. Attempted to make contact with owner with negative results. ACO (Animal Control Officer) later went to apartment and put paperwork the on door advising him to make contact with them.

3:36 p.m. – E Main Street caller reported that the dog was still locked up in the apartment, and the owner had not been back for over 24 hours.

5:41 p.m. – ACO advised station of abandoned dog found at E Main Street, and provided approximate arrival time.

Sunday, January 22

2:00 a.m. – E Main Street stop for operating motorized scooter at night without a helmet on a public way.

11:53 p.m. – Anonymous caller reported someone on the second floor had been playing loud music since 7 pm. Police notified the only apartment noise was coming from on the 2nd floor of the complaint.

Monday, January 23

2:47 a.m. – Police and Highway Department moved a large limb out of the road on E River Street.

8:53 a.m. – Police contacted the registered owner of a vehicle blocking the plow trucks at N Main and Dexter Street. Vehicle had been left there because it was unable to make it up the hill the previous night.

10:58 a.m. – Athol Road caller reported a tree branch on the power line. Orange Fire notified and Highway Department to block road off.

12:24 p.m. – Warwick Road caller reported downed power lines across their motor vehicle in the driveway.

1:32 p.m. – E River Street caller who previously spoke to an officer regarding her neighbor stalking her. She reported that same neighbor had come to her window two times that day staring at her window. Police spoke to the subject, who claimed it was all a coincidence. They were advised to stay away from the reporting party.

3:48 p.m. – Police assisted Fryeville Road motorist with vehicle that needed to be winched back onto the road.

6:35 p.m. – E Main Street traffic stop for operating without headlights.

8:22 p.m. – Police responded to Tully Road for a car off the road needing tow. No injuries. See report.
